What Is Happening In The Industry?

Maybe it is an urban myth told among Actors.

The lights are focused; the shot designed, the director sits back at the monitor and calls to the 1st Ad, “Bring on the meat puppets!”. “Actors”, the 1st insists, just in case any of the Actors are in earshot.

And the story is told in the hope they can command a greater respect– these self employed professionals.

But like most small businesses they cannot do everything. There are some things they need to outsource. Their Marketing Division, the Financial Department, their Human Resources, the Legal Department, often a Mentoring Programmer to be their advocates, encouragers, advisors. Some even need Time and Motion Management.

Standing between the Actor’s creative talent and the rest of the industry is their Agent.

To make movies, television, drama or TVCs, The Agent, like all others in the chain is a link, the Actor’s link with the Casting Director, the Production House, the agency, the Producer. The One Stop Shop.

The New Zealand Actors’ Agent’s Guild brings a group of competitors together who share the same business ethic. At the base lies a deep respect for the talent of the Actor.

From their collegiality they gain from others experience and shared insight to better serve their own individual clients.

Strength in numbers demands of the Film and Television community the same ethical and fair dealings. Their communication network enables them to discuss quickly industry issues that arise.

Since 1992 the NZAAG have been involved in all rate negotiations and work issues as well as the Television Commercial Contract and The Pink Book. They have also had close alignment with SPADA on developing industry guidelines. In addition the NZAAG have worked hard on behalf of the particularly vulnerable with the original implementation of the now standard Guidelines that protect the working rights of children.

The New Zealand Actors Agents Guild publicly & proudly declares their ethical business practices and welcomes new members who share this solidarity.
